Basically right now I'm getting paid to sit and make sure the covina senior citizens center doesn't burn down. I just order pizza and there's piano lessons going on in the dining room. Oh, the joys of working the sub shifts for parks and recreation.
I've resolved to spend my entire weekend studying for my bio 2 lecture exam #3. It's on ALL animals from porifera to primates.
But today I had a 'me day' before work. Spent a few hours in downtown covina and went to my high school to get my transcripts sent to UCSD. And I stopped to talk to some of my HS friends who are still there; I got there at lunch and saw a fight break out right before my eyes! And a teacher broke it up and he's the wrestling coach so he got ALL in this kid's face.
But now I have an hour left of my sit-and-do-nothing work. There's something empowering about being on a stage in a big empty auditorium.

I am expecting either inevitible rejection or miraculous acceptance from UCLA soon. In the meantime, I'm counting thousands of fliers for a little more than minimum wage at the parks and rec office. The vietnam veterans moving wall memorial is coming to town! It does that about every ten years: I remember walking to the park on a class field trip in the fifth grade. I was very confused because back then the only war I knew about was WW2 and I had thought had the vietnam war was a new edit inserted into history... Like a new chapter written into an old book. How wonderful it was to be ten with such disconnected thinking...
I'm going to try to get some volunteer work in the field of sexology/reproductive health for the summer. I'm convinced all I really have to do to prepare myself for this sort of work is listen to LoveLine religiously.
My slowly-dying Parks and Rec job called me today asking me to come in to count fliers. That's sad... Either they really don't like me or there really is zero funding left to provide good assignments for employees. Anyways, I haven't worked for them since October and I won't be able to once I transfer, so I decided to pick up a flier-counting shift tomorrow between RadioHacks and Bio Sexuality class. What can I say? I love my city.
I rushed over to Ontario today for the SCPA finals and parked illegally so I could get to see South Hills perform. They were so great! I hope the judges treat them well :)
I wish I could post some video but I've already done my share of illegal things for the day, plus the quality would probably be horrendous.
I think right now, more than anything, I wish the greatest weight on my shoulders could be that of a giant marching bass drum. I think I may look into marching band programs at UC's and see if they're a possibility. Is that sad? Oh well- I miss the music!
Luckily, this week I will be getting a lot of three-hour shifts at work since my manager has been disabled in editing the system-generated schedule.
I've come to Starbucks to kill two hours before work by writing poetry and here I am blogging for the umpteenth time this weekend. Sign me out....
I had a pretty below average week... Self-induced. I think I'll call them the week 7 blues. I slept through my BioAnthro class, did lousy on my bio2 practicum, turned in two online class assignments a few hours late, and neglected to do discussion responses for poetry class online. I'm exhausted and my thighs are sore from treading rocks and sand at the tide pools yesterday, but I have to spend this weekend unlagging myself. I also need to find a new job. Soon. Sigh.
Well, I guess I'll start unlagging by getting a head start on next week's poetry assignments. This week's prompt is... 'A Found Poem'
"Keep your eyes open for a found poem: it could be a fragment from a grocery list, instructions for starting a new wristwatch, a section of synonyms from a thesaurus..." (taken from Steve Kowit's "In the Palm Of Your Hand, pg 118")

This is a giant vulva that I drew for my human sexuality class presentation on female inorgasmia. Quite frankly, I would not know what to do with this vagina. I think the width of the labial fold opening is about as big as my head. Anyways right now I am finishing my long slurpee Friday up at Eryn, Kenneth, and Jose's house to work on our presentation.
